Before our 2020 Early Harvest editors begin exploring this year’s adventure theme, we’re time-travelling back to last year to reflect on the process involved in making a publication by children for children.

Rebecca Lim’s grit and determination in the face of failure, and her resolve to ensure that people like herself are reflected in the stories she saw on TV and in books, makes her the perfect mentor for the diverse young writers in our 2020 Early Harvest program.

In solidarity with Black Lives Matter, 100 Story Building commits to actions that make space for First Nations and Black peoples’ stories, particularly those of children and young people, and the work we need to do as non-Indigenous Australians to better support Reconciliation and anti-racism in our community.

Set time limits with children / students on creative projects. It helps children stay focussed and excited, and places the emphasis on getting the idea onto the page, rather than getting it perfect.

We’re excited to be working with teenagers on compiling their experiences of life in social isolation. The results will be published in a book: A User’s Guide To A Pandemic.

We sent young writers on an interstellar mission. Check out the adventures that Cleo had along the way.

We sent an astronaut to explore a far off planet and asked young writers to help us figure out what happened next. Thank you Floyd for sharing your story of a cosmic clash with us!

At 100 Story Building, we don’t try to mask our own nervousness or mistakes. Instead, we share our feelings with children by thinking out loud. And we invite them to help us overcome them.
