Meet our new Geelong Story Hubs artist, Laura Alice!
We’re thrilled to announce that we have selected the artists who will work alongside students in our 2023 Story Hubs schools - including Laura Alice, who is working with South Geelong and Geelong East Primary Schools!
Story Hubs is 100 Story Building's innovative program that partners students, teachers and artists to build imaginative spaces in their communities, supporting them to step beyond the boundaries of the classroom, take creative risks and to become more confident, curious and engaged learners. Meet Laura Alice (she/her)
Laura Alice is an award-winning Geelong-based artist with more than 10 years experience in creating soulful art, immersive installations and cutting-edge experiences.
Her works have graced galleries, national museums, laneways and festivals. Her pieces are often playful and serene, exploring an inner world of archetypes, folklore and dreamscapes, examining divinity through feminism and queerness. Laura’s work straddles tech and creative physicality; she is a multi-award winning animator and film-maker. Her work in the development of augmented reality as an art-form has set her apart as an innovator in her field, creating community projects that are playful, immersive and magical.
We don’t yet know which of Laura’s many talents will be used in the South Geelong hub’s design, but we know it’s going to be incredible!
We asked Laura a few questions about becoming a Story Hubs artist.
Did you make art when you were in school?
Yes I did! I was constantly drawing or making things when I was a kid, and If I wasn’t making something I was reading fantasy books.
What kind of art do you make?
I make so many types of art - drawings and street art, paintings and animations, films and installations and augmented reality - anything creative you can guarantee I’ve at least tried it!
Why did you apply to be part of Story Hubs?
I applied simply because it just sounded extremely fun!
What's most exciting about co-designing with children?
The best bit is that kids have the most brilliant imaginations and cool ideas - I have two children and we are always making cool stuff together. I am inspired by how creative kids brains are.
Welcome, Laura – we know you’re going to help the students and teachers in our Geelong schools create something amazing!
