Meet Gretel Sharp, one of our new Geelong Story Hub Artists!

We’re thrilled to announce that we have selected Gretel Sharp and Lucy Allison as the artists who will work alongside students from St Leonard's and Whittington Primary Schools to build our new Geelong Story Hub.

Story Hubs is 100 Story Building's innovative new program that partners students, teachers and artists to build imaginative spaces in their communities, supporting them to step beyond the boundaries of the classroom, take creative risks and to become more confident, curious and engaged learners. Learn more about the program here.

She is a strong advocate of the role of storytelling, and the impact it has on young people’s confidence and sense of belonging.

“I know this was always the case for me through drama and creative activities, and with my experience as a kids entertainer it's definitely a way for…kids to shine their colours and contribute in ways that straight learning doesn't always allow…it can mean they can think and create for themselves and build confidence in what they have to offer others.”

Creative storytelling is such a vital part of growing up and I believe it's what helps most kids understand their place in the world.

Gretel’s recent credits include starring in Love of The Nightingale at Theatreworks and a residency as part of the latest LAB program at Platform Arts 2021, exhibiting a durational installation ‘Two Gather’. Other recent highlights include interning with The Rabble, performing in My Dearworthy Darling at Malthouse 2019, and touring to Wuzhen Theatre Festival in 2019 with a devised show, Forgiveness.

In her spare time, you’ll find Gretel being a self-described “total beach bum”, brewing new combinations of herbal teas, and or doing interpretive dance.

Welcome, Gretel – we can’t wait to see the creative spaces you’ll help young people create!
