A 100 Story Building in Geelong!
100 Story Building is joining with students & teachers at St Leonard's and Whittington Primary Schools to design Geelong's first Story Hub - an imaginative, co-designed space where students can collaborate and take creative risks in their learning.
Sixteen Year 3-6 students and four teachers are taking on the role of designers for their Story Hub, gathering inspiration from their peers and collaborating with the 100 Story Building team to curate their ideas into a concept design. The group will then work alongside an artist and maker to bring their Story Hub concept to life.
Last month we kicked off by holding our first co-design workshop with the group. The students played a Zombie name game to get acquainted, and then dived in to the challenge of describing creativity. Their fantastic responses included “messy”, “happy about myself” and “I don’t know how to describe it (but I know what it feels like)”.
They then practised being designers by designing presents for each of their schools (and Batman, too!). After brainstorming what helps us feel creative, they made St Leonards a present of a painting of a Narnia-like art gallery, which you can step inside and find animals painting. Meanwhile Whittington’s present would be a zoo library, with a sound system to play books or nature sounds for the animals!
After such an imaginative start, we can’t wait to see the concepts they think up for the actual Story Hub itself!
