  • 100 Story Building 92 Nicholson Street Footscray, VIC, 3011 Australia (map)

Want to write stories with memorable characters, surprising twists and laugh-out-loud moments? Just get WEIRD!

In this fun and interactive masterclass, bestselling author Andrew McDonald will share the secrets to creating characters and writing stories that hook readers with the power of WEIRD.

Andrew McDonald is a children’s book author and the writer of the beloved Real Pigeons series, which is illustrated by Ben Wood. Andrew's books have been shortlisted for the Readings Children’s Book Prize, the Australian Book Industry Awards and the YABBA/KOALA/KROC children’s choice book awards. Andrew loves writing stories that make kids laugh, gasp, think and wonder. He also enjoys baking his own bread, which he eats down to the last breadcrumb (sorry pigeons).

Andrew has been a keen mentor to our Editorial Committee for many years of the program, sharing insights about book marketing, teamwork, and creative manifestos. He was also a guest author for Early Harvest 6: Crime and Murder Mystery, contributing a story full of twists, turns, and the mysterious “Merrispoon Fir Allen”.
