The Day of the Pigeons over, the Day of the Pigeons Book still to come!

Whoah! That was awesome, we should do it again sometime! The Day of the Pigeons was certainly something special. Not only did we raise over $3,000 - funds that will go directly to aiding the development of our literacy projects - the event was also a great coming together of the wider Pigeons community. Friends new and old mingled in the historic Bella Union, and were treated to some wonderful insights into how the authors and students in our programs write together.Tony Wilson, Jackie Kerin and Andrew McDonald each gave very touching, and very funny, accounts of their experiences collaborating with young Pigeons authors. And our wonderful guests Jess McGuire, Michael Williams and Ben Birchall kept the audience riveted with their entertaining readings from some of the Pigeon Letters stories. Our warmest thanks to all our fabulous guests, volunteers and performers. It is at events like this that it becomes apparent just how many people contribute their time and talent to our programs. We would also like to thank Readings, Pony Bikes and harvest magazine for their generous donations to our raffle. We love you!Click here for more photos from the night, taken by the talented James McCulloch. Now on to the next big happening in the Pigeons calendar: the editing and proofreading of twenty-one incredible stories (which is what has caused us to be so tardy with this posting - we've been busy here at Pigeons HQ!). The students of 5L at Footscray City Primary School have fine-tuned their co-written tales, and with a great deal of excitement have presented us with their very professional manuscripts (typed, double spacing, indented paragraphs!)We would like to congratulate all 42 authors, young and old, for reaching this impressive milestone, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements come the release of the book in mid-December.
