Story Hubs teachers get going

Australian teachers have been doing a fantastic job of transitioning to new ways of delivering teaching, managing expectations and still keeping student wellbeing and education at the forefront. We are honoured to support them with our skills, knowledge and programs!

Today we delivered online professional learning sessions to 16 educators from Meadows Primary, Sunshine Primary and Banksia Gardens Community Services as a part of our Story Hub program.

The first session focussed on issues uppermost on the minds of all teachers: how to deliver online remote teaching effectively? In this practical session, we discussed basic tips and techniques on framing, talking to the camera, pacing and using the online chat function for activities.

With student wellbeing high on everyone’s agenda, the second session looked at storymaking activities to help students transition into creative mindsets or get energised for learning, particularly across online platforms.

The participants tried their hands at some such activities aimed to engage and energise students during remote learning sessions, for example, using the chat function to create quick six-word stories.

One of the many winner stories to come out of the exercise was: ‘Hair was cut, along with Jobkeeper.’ How apt for our COVID-afflicted times!

We asked the teachers to share their feedback in the same six-word format, and here’s what some of them had to say.

‘Give me more, I am addicted.’

‘Fun, practical, can’t wait to try.’

‘Fun creative ideas. Yes more please.’

‘Very helpful, enjoyed got new perspective.’

We thank all the teachers and educators who participated in the program. We can’t wait to hear how they implement the learnings, and the impact they have on student learning, engagement and well being.

Story Hubs is a whole-school and community pilot program aimed at developing curious, confident and engaged learners.
