Early Harvest 7: Dreams

Remember that time the dream thieves caused a dreampocalypse? No? We don’t either. ‘Cause Early Harvest 7 stepped in to save our dream world! The dream thieves thought they were stealing our nightmares. Very nice, right? But they accidentally started stealing all our dreams! Not very nice, right? The only way they could unwind the dreampocalypse was to hide our dreams inside the pages of Early Harvest 7, an annual fiction book written and edited by children for children. The theme this year is - you guessed it - DREAMS!Here you’ll meet a sell-out Rockstar being chased across alternate dimensions by the Police of the Universe, BFF’s facing their biggest fears, multiple volcanoes, a dream gobbling monster, wereverines with knife-like claws, and a very fancy moustache. This year, fourteen young editors (ages 10-12) from Greater Dandenong received 150 submissions from young writers across Melbourne. And just as they were finishing, the 151st submission arrived. From no less than the AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN’S LAUREATE Morris Gleitzman! The dream team selected a collection of thirteen stories and poems which are so good we’d say they’re the stuff that dreams are made of. Luckily for Morris, he made the cut.Four different ‘corns’ introduce the issue’s four sections. Pandacorn is your guide to fantastical dreams, Hypercorn to exciting dreams, Zombiecorn leads you through nightmares and Popcorn will help you realise your Aspirations! You’ll also find quizzes, games, a choose-your-own-adventure story and a fill-in-the-blanks motivational speech. There is also a secret gateway to twelve more stories which got lost along the way.Written for kids by kids, Early Harvest is a literary platform for young voices and creative expression. Each year, a group of upper-primary children from diverse backgrounds are mentored by publishing professionals and authors to put together the annual children’s fiction publication. The young editors of Early Harvest 7 invited submissions, selected authors, commissioned artists, edited stories, created illustration briefs and ultimately produced the literary publication. We thank the schools involved in the DREAMS issue of Early Harvest:
