Introducing the Early Harvest editors!

Blog editor intro.png

We are delighted to introduce the editorial team that will put together the adventure-themed Early Harvest book for 2020!

Every year, as a part of our Early Harvest program, we publish a children’s fiction book that is edited by a panel of young editors. The young editors, who are all in Year 5 and 6, meet every Saturday over Term 3 to select, select, edit and publish a collection of short stories.

This year, we received a rich selection of applications for the editorial positions from our six partner schools across Melbourne, leaving us with the unenviable job of selecting the 15 to join the panel.

Here’s how they would like you to know them:

Ambitious Alvis
Killer Kshetra
Nifty Naysa
Cliffhanging Chloe
Adventurous Anamika
Lucky Lachie
Jamming Jai
Gifted Great
Action Ava
Astronomical Abaigeal
Ambitious Alice
Suspicious Sally
Alert Aparanji
Catwalking Caitlin
Juggling Jas

This year, as the editors are meeting over Zoom due to COVID restrictions, we were also able to expand the geographic reach of the panel. The editors reside in neighbourhoods as far apart as Dandenong and Mt Macedon.

The young editors set the ball rolling at their very first editorial meeting by making some significant decisions:

  • Their all-important adventure names

  • The criteria on which to judge the stories for selection: plot, language, originality, feelings, entertainment and the all-important adventure quotient.

  • The rules for respectful discussion among the editors.

  • The number of SNACK breaks allowed in the meeting!

We can’t wait for this rollercoaster ride to begin.

Early Harvest is a dynamic program for upper-primary students that gives them an in-depth experience of the publishing process.
