Book Club Tour Report!
*bursts out of the ground*Hey everyone! I LIVEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Long time, no chat. It’s been a while since I’ve written for the 100 Story Building blog. But university life is a whole new beast! How I miss my youthful days in high school. The freedom to read books whenever I wanted to, the long holidays with even more time to read and binge watch TV shows/movies. Well, now I’m a full-fledged adult who has actual responsibilities. Sob!BUT DO NOT FRET. The five-year-old in me is alive and kickin’ and Level 87 Book Club is still very much a part of my life. Right now, it needs an urgent clean! We need to dust the cobwebs of neglect and find new members to bring the fun back to Level 87. So my fellow book clubber Korik and I are on a quest. Instead of waiting for people to come to us, we have decided to go to them! And I have been assigned the task to document our journey and keep you all up-to-date on our progress!Our first stop was Gilmore College for Girls. Now, THAT seems like a familiar name, doesn’t it? No, it’s not the TV show. It is the high school that I graduated from. What a joyful moment for me to return to my old school and reuniting with my teachers and students. Seeing familiar and new faces at the session was truly amazing. Naturally, I want more girls from Gilmore College to know about Level 87 Book Club. But I have to say, I wasn’t expecting quite that many girls to turn up. I could feel my social anxiety kick-in…However, Korik and I were prepared for all eventualities. Out came ‘Anonymous Tallies’, a fandom/book/movie game we have invented to get big groups of teenagers out of their shell. Soon we were discussing whether or not superhero fiction should be classified as science fiction. After all, Marvel universe is a prime example of the ‘science element’ in superhero fiction: Hulk was created through cell manipulation and Tony Stark with advanced technology etc.Our second stop was to Mount Alexander College in Flemington. This was a REALLY nice school going by the various subjects on offer as we walked around the place. Excited, Korik and I waited patiently for kids to arrive for our mini Book Club during lunch hour in their small cosy library.We waited… and waited… and waited… but all we saw was kids eating ice cream from a fundraising event at the school, which I must say, made me HANGRY. We should have known. Who can compete with ice cream? Plan B it was! We were going to venture OUTSIDE and interact with the ice cream-eating kids. Soon we had gathered a group of students and the games and discussions were in full flow. By the time lunch rolled to an end, we were confident that we had found some new members to join Level 87 Book Club.Oh, and I never got my ice cream – they had all sold out! Darvey is now a fully-fledged adult but still identifies as a five-year-old in the mind and heart. She still loves Harry Potter amongst all other things that she enjoys more than exercise. You can find her happily fangirling in front of a crowd or giving out second-hand stress to those around her.
