Abhilash Mudaliar appointed as Interim CEO of 100 Story Building

100 Story Building is thrilled to announce the appointment of Abhilash Mudaliar as the Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 August 2024. This follows the recent announcement of the departure of our current CEO, Susan Kukucka, who has been an inspiring leader for the past three years.

Abhilash brings with him an impressive 20 years of experience across social enterprise, impact investing, philanthropy, and nonprofit management. His most recent role as Chief Impact Officer at the Paul Ramsay Foundation saw him leading teams dedicated to impact measurement and evaluation, impact investing, social enterprise, and social innovation. Abhilash’s vast experience also includes significant positions at the Global Impact Investing Network, Elevar Equity, the World Bank, and Bain & Company.

Sandeep Varma, Chair of 100 Story Building, commented: “We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Abhilash’s calibre and dedication stepping into the role of Interim CEO. His extensive experience and passion for social impact align perfectly with our mission to nurture young writers and amplify their voices.

Abhilash has been a valued member of our Board since August 2023, and this appointment makes him one of the very few South Asian Australians leading a children-focused arts non-profit organisation in Australia.

We are confident in his ability to steer our creative spaceship through this transition period.”

Abhilash holds Honours degrees in Commerce and Arts from the University of Melbourne and an MPA in International Development from Harvard University. He also serves as a non-executive Director on the boards of Myriad Australia, Shine For Kids, and First Australians Capital.

Reflecting on his new role, Abhilash shared: “I have had the fortune of seeing and supporting the great work of 100 Story Building from a distance as a Board Director, and I’m excited now to step into this Interim CEO role. The fantastic team at 100 Story Building is so full of creative energy and spirit. I look forward to working with them to continue fostering creativity and storytelling among young people, and keep innovating in how we can have even greater impact.”

As we bid farewell to Susan Kukucka, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for her remarkable contributions and leadership. Under her guidance, 100 Story Building has flourished, expanding its reach and impact. Susan’s legacy includes the successful navigation through the pandemic, the establishment of our new home in Footscray, and the formation of the Young People’s Advisory Committee, among many other achievements.

“The Board will soon commence the recruitment process for a permanent CEO. In the meantime, with Abhilash at the helm and our dedicated team’s continued efforts, we are confident that 100 Story Building will maintain its trajectory of growth and creativity,” Sandeep said.
